Say What Now of the Day: In today’s edition of Santorum Santorum Says: Rape victims who get pregnant “have to make the best out of a bad situation.”
(Also: “I believe and I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created — in the sense of rape — but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you.”)
[think.]
I could not disagree more with what Rick Santorum believes, on many issues. This one in particular. How could you describe a forced pregnancy in the case of rape or incest as a gift? That is not a gift. A real gift is the freedom to choose as an individual what is best for you, or in the case of a minor, what is best for your child. And if you think what’s best for your child is forcing them to give birth to a child with which they were forcefully and violently impregnated (in some cases by a family member), then in my opinion you have no f*cking clue and don’t deserve to make that choice for someone else. I realize these are extreme cases, and uncommon circumstances, but they do happen, and no one should be forced to make a decision one way or the other if they’re ever in such a terrible and compromising position. They should have the right to choose. I guarantee you Rick Santorum’s tune would change if it actually happened to one of his daughters.
Well said, Andrew! I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s disgusting that some people think this way about a woman’s freedom to choose.
